Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I lost my job and my insurance.I have type 2 diabetes.I cannot afford my Humalog insulin right now. Yet I have six Kwik pens of Levemir insulin. I use to take 10mg of Humalog before every meal. Can I use the Levemer until I can afford the Humalog? If so how
Levemir is a long acting insulin so this is used as background insulin. Humalog is a short acting insulin and therefore used to help control blood sugar levels in response to meals.
Levemir is not used to control blood sugar in response to meals and because it is long acting, it would take a long time to come into effect when given.
You would still need a short acting along with the levemir. There may be cheaper shorting available eg humulin r
I hope this helps
