Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Clonazepam work well in short term to relive the symptoms of stress or anxiety. However, it's prolong use is not advisable and neither recommended as it has so many problems in long term use, like dependence, and its not the cure. Lexapro on the other hand is the recommended treatment for anxiety and depression. So your doctor is very right, I would suggest you stick to his plan and tapper Clonazepam to stop it in some time, though it would be not easy after this prolong use.
Hope I have answered your question, looking forward for any clarification needed.
