My husband and I have appts to get Tickle Lipo, unfortunately we had an accident and I just found out I m pregnant. We are deciding to terminate it, but our Lipo appt is in the next couple days, I want to go thru with it since I m getting an abortion, is it medically safe?
Being pregnant increases your risk during anesthesia. You have a greater chance of complications because the hormones of pregnancy can affect blood clotting and can increase your risk of aspiration. This is a risk to you and not to the baby. So I would strongly recommend delaying your surgery until at least 6 weeks after your pregnancy is over. The anesthesiologist for your case would agree if he/she knew that you were pregnant, and you run a risk of having your case cancelled. Most surgical facilities do a urine pregnancy test on all reproductive age women before surgery for that reason. I hope this information was helpful and clarified things for you. Best wishes, Dr. Brown
