Is Lisinopril Advisable Along With Amlodipine For Elevated BP?

Good evening, my name is Tiffany and I had septoplasty surgery done yesterday 9/7/2017 to fix my left deviated septum. I looked at WebMd.com and noticed that the side effect for the pain/swelling medicine my surgeon put me on, Celebrex200mg, it mentioned that blood pressure rising was a side effect. I have suffered with blood pressure problems ever since 2004 when I was pregnant with my first son, I was 37 weeks pregnant and had to have him at that time because I developed severe preeclampsia. When I got pregnant with my second son I suffered pregnancy induced hypertension from 4 months pregnant until I was 37 weeks and had him then too. I said all that to say this, ever since end of 2014/beginning of 2015 I was put on 40mg(2 20mg) of Lisinopril and 10mg of Amlodipine. Prior to adding Amlodipine, I was taking back in when I was younger just one 20mg of Lisinopril then when my blood pressure was still out of control my Dr. made it 40mg(2 20mg), after 6 months with my pressure still being and down they adding Amlodipine. Since the very end of August when I needed to refill my Lisinopril I called my Dr. s office and spoke with a nurse and she informed me that they have taken me off Lisinopril and I am to only take the 1 10mg of Amlodipine. My concern is will I have to worry about my blood pressure due to the fact the I am only on 10mg of Amlodipine, I ask this because I just quit smoking cigarettes very recently and I quit smoking weed and messing with cocaine now for almost 2 months weed almost 3 months cocaine 2months...YEAH!!! I just want to make sure I am not going to have to worry about my blood pressure being high while taking Celebrex. The goal has always been for my blood pressure top number to be under 140 and bottom number to be under 90, since just taking the Amlodipine everyday by itself I only had my top number be 145 one time for the most part the bottom number is between 70 s and low 80 s, one time it was 87 and 92 but it has been mainly 82 83 77 so not too bad the lowest was 60 s. I have gained 20lbs since leaving these things along so I am 320lbs I am in the process of joining YMCA and taking their water aerobics and water Zumba class for 3 months to lose some of this weight. Please let me know if I should be concerned about my blood pressure going up over 140/over 90 my goal that my Dr. gave me is to stay under 140/90. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Tiffany

Hi,

Celebrex may slightly raise the blood pressure (mostly not a big problem). However, its effects is not very much. After the surgery you may need it only for few days, after which you can always stop it. Even if it raises the BP to some extent, it would come down as you would stop the drug. If BP raised over 140 or 90 for few days then does not cause any problems, if this is only for few days. So just keep an eye on your BP for a week, make a record of your readings. If it were high, you can always talk to your doctor, who may add another drug, if needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
