Is Lortab Or Mobic Better To Reduce Shoulder Pain?

I have had problems with my right shoulder for about two years now. I have gone through and completed physical therapy twice and undergone surgery December of 2012. However, my shoulder separated Thanksgiving evening and has multiple times since then. Consequently, I called my orthopedic surgeon because the pain was severe and continues to progressively get worse everyday. My doctor resumed my prescription pain and sleep medication as I was not able to sleep to due to constant chronic and spontaneous outbursts of pain. However, after a month in which I underwent multiple X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and nerve tests in which the nerve doctor was unable to even test my right shoulder and arm with shock due to its instability, my doctor suddenly changed my prescription from Lortab to Mobic. The Mobic is not effective at all, so I asked my doctor if I could swich back to the Lortab because it was effective at relieving my pain. To my surprise, he refused and said that he could only prescribe Mobic or Celebrex. I asked why, and he said it was because he did not believe that I was in pain. I am, though! Why won't he believe me and why the change?

Usually the MD's don't prescribe Lortab for chronic use is because of its addictive nature. Since its an opiod, it has long term drug addiction as its major problem. So it does provide shot term pain relief but it causes more harm over long term use.
Your MD should have gradually tapered the Lortab dose and then put you on Mobic. You are not feeling mobic affective because you have been used to Lortab. I would suggest you to request your MD to change Mobic dosage to high and sustained releases for few days and then gradually taper.
I hope that should help.
