Is Mefanorm Safe To Be Given For Fever In A Child?
hello Dr,my son is 2.5 years old. he had fever of 103*F yesterday , so we went to the pediatrician he gave mefanorm suspension 5ml and told to wait for 30min. after that the fever had come down suddenly. my question is Is this medicine is preferable for kids . after we reached home my kid wont sleep at all he cried and scratched his hands often.
Mefanorm (mefenamic acid) is not recommended for children less than 14 years of age. But this medication is used extensively in children less than 14 years as the medication is highly effective in bringing down the fever in such population. This type of use is called off-label use and it depends upon the experience of the handling pediatrician and some small scale studies. I hope this clears your queries regarding the use of this medication in your child. If your son continues to scratch or if there are rashes, please contact your pediatrician for further management as it could be allergy. Fever may sometimes cause the child to be irritable and interfere with sleep pattern. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
