Is Metoprolol Tartrate Effective In Lowering Blood Pressure Levels?
I just received a Metoprolol Tartrate Script from Express Scripts. According to Express Scripts, my doctor cut the dosage of 100mg tabs from twice a day to once a day. I don t think the 100mg tabs can effectively keep down blood pressure for a full 24 hours with a single dose? I think my older sister was taking this drug and she had to change it from once a day to twice a day. I know my BP has not gone down. In fact, it was quite high just before a cardiac chemical stress test last week. I m 61. Why would my doc change it? I saw something about a recall? I know I may be able to find out tomorrow but, be nice to get some ideas now.
Hi and Welcome to Ask A Doctor service. I have read your question and here is my advice. Dose of metoprolol for hypertension is initially tons tart with 100 mg , it's then increased to 200 mg if needed .Some times up to 400 mg may be given which is not common. The dose needed may be different for different people so though your sister needed 200 , may be you need 100 mg , it may be then increased. The recall is not for metoprolol, it was for other hypertension medication of some companies containing valsartan. Hopes Ihave answered your question. I will be glad to answer any further question about this.
