Is Morphine Keeping The Patient With Emphazema And Other Problems Alive ?

hi my mom is on .25 mil of morphine 3x a day at the nursing home..she went into the nursing home cuz she had given up on life having emphazema and other things kept going wrong.hospice started her on .5 mil 3x a day and more if wanted, after 3 weeks of not eating the mother decided she wanted to stay around so we took her off hospice ans she started a rehap program at the nursing home,that went fir 2and a half months. now my my is there to stay and like i was telling u at the begining she is still on morphine they said to me shes doing so well on it they dont want to take her off .are they actually keeing her alive with this

NO Morphine is not keeping her alive . Morphine is a strong pain killer and an anxiolytic . Means it reduces the Anxiety associated with any illness or discomfort . This added with the pain relief is making her deal with emphysema better .

Though medically Opiod analgesics ( like morphine ) is not recommended in Emphysema patients as she is comfortable with morphine let it be continued . But definitely it is not the one which is keeping her alive .
