General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. H Kay's Response
Hello,
He might be having strep throat. It's possible that your child's fever may be due to a different infection that is not responding to amoxicillin. In some cases, a different type of antibiotic may be needed to treat the underlying infection. Your doctor may want to do further testing or evaluation to determine the cause of your child's fever.
In the meantime, it's important to keep your child comfortable and well-hydrated. You can give acetaminophen or ibuprofen to help lower the fever, but be sure to follow the recommended dosage for your child's age and weight. If your child's fever persists or if they develop other symptoms, contact your healthcare provider for further guidance.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
