Hello sir,
My wife(31 years) had fits last monday and was diagnosed as Neurocysticercosis also my daughter(5years) was diagnosed with the same disease 10 months back(Oct 2010), when she had fits in her class room. I want to check whether this disease is completely curable and the is there a stop for medication as my daughter is still taking. My last question is that, would this NCC continue in my family like my daughter's children would be epileptic?
Thanks.
No,Neurocysticercosis is not a genetic disease. Neurocysticercosis is due to accidental ingestion of eggs of Taenia solium (i,e pork tapeworm) usually due to contamination of food. There must be some source at your home.
Most commonly it is due to uncooked vegetables. Taeniasis is also due to eating cysts in poorly cooked pork.
It is a curable disease and try to find out its source which is causing problem in your family.
Hope i have answered your query. Get well soon.
Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
