Hi,
Neuro-
cysticercosis is the condition in which there are cysts in the brain found in ventricles, cisterns, or even in brain parenchyma following the
parasitic infection named as Teania solium, a pork tapeworm. Accidental ingestion of the parasite causes the infection. CT brain or MRI brain helps in confirmation of the disease. Common presentation of the disease is seizures. Headache,
dizziness and stroke are other symptoms. The parasite may be alive or dead at the time of presentation.
Treatment depends on the state of the parasite. If the parasite is dead, symptomatic treatment is enough such as antiepileptics. Anti parasitic with
albendazole is prescribed in individuals with live parasite. Zeptol cr 200 is an anti-epileptic contains
carbamazepine as composition. It prevents seizure episodes. Regular follow up is necessary. If there is recurrence of any symptoms, clinic visit is necessary for evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
