Is Strattera Effective In The Treatment Of ADHD?

my sister is going to start Straterra for ADHD, she is 55 years old. Her doc is starting with 20mg and going up to 80. Seems so high..she is 205 lbs and 5 ft 6 your thoughts..... she is trying to lose weight, so the decrease in appetite might work, but also has sleep issues, so sleepiness will be good also.....

Hi,

Strattera is a non-stimulant medication that is used for treatment of symptoms of ADHD. The initial dose is 0.5 mg/kg. The targeted clinical dose is approximately 1.2 mg/kg. This way the dose suggested by your physician is not more than what is recommended, and she can take it without hesitation. Medication is given in the morning and must be used each day. When higher doses are needed, the amount needed can be divided into two doses, one in the morning and one in the evening. Strattera takes from one to four weeks to work. So, do take care to have patience to let the medication work.
