Is Sulfamethoxazole Effective In The Treatment Of Laryngitis?

Ive had laryngitis for over 2 weeks. The infection started in the middle of my throat and I have green phlem. The dr prescribed prednisone and I refused to take it. She then prescribed sulfamethoxazole and I m not sure whether that was a good choice. YYYY@YYYY

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
FIrst, laryngitis is most cases cased by virus and then antibiotics wont help at all. Even if there is phlegm this still doesnt mean its bacterial so you should be aware of this. Second, if this is bacterial then sulfametoxasole would not be a good option and better solutions would be amoxicilin or azytromicin. Corticosteroids can be used of course if there is breathing difficulties. I suggest also inhalation medicines such as ventolin and avoid smoky and cosed areas. If there is no improvement , then you should see ENT specialist.
I hope I have answered your query. Wish you good health.
