Levothyroxine is the treatment of choice for hypothyroidism. Serum TSH should be measured to monitor for adequate replacement. TSH can take up to 4 months to normalize. TSH is measured 6–8 weeks after initiation of levothyroxine and then annually once you are on a stable dose of levothyroxine. You need to take levothyroxine for life-long continuously without any interruption. Dose is titrated as per serum TSH level and a serum TSH level of 1- 3 is considered adequate. As you have not mentioned the dose of levothyroxine correctly and now your serum TSH level is 14. You have to increase dose by 25 mcg every 6 – 8 weeks After 6 – 8 weeks, you again check your serum TSH level, and dose will be adjusted accordingly. Once you reach a stable dose, you have to take it continuously for life-long. Consult a good endocrinologist of your area for further management.
Thanks
