General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

TSH is the hormone released from the part of the brain, it then sends a message to the thyroid gland in the neck and this causes the thyroid gland to release the thyroid hormone.

TSH is not the thyroid hormone itself. High levels of TSH usually mean that the levels of the thyroid hormone itself are low, this is the reason that they are giving you thyroid hormone replacement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
