Is Tamoxifen Withdrawal Safe Post Bilateral Mastectomy?

I have been taking Tamoxifen for over 2 1/2 yrs. I had Stage 3a BC and had a bilateral mastectomy. The tamoxifen has packed on an enormous amount of weight, gives me severe hot flashes and insomnia. I am now post menopausal. I am 53 yrs. old. I do not want to take Arimidex for the same reasons I hate tamoxifen. What are my chances of a recurrence if I go off the tamoxifen vs. staying on it and packing more and more pounds on!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you may need to use it for longer interval if tumor has been SERM receptor positive than tamoxifen can be beneficial with recurrence reducing however diet modification and exercises and dietician consults may reduce chances or intensity of weight gain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
