Is Tetanus Booster Advisable For Dog S Bite Causing Twitching Around The Wound?

Hello. Yesterday, I sustained a dog bite on my thumb that left me with a puncture wound. The dog and I were both outside when this happened, and so I was most likely also exposed to the soil. I am not sure if I am due for a tetanus booster or not, and cannot reach my doctor s office until Monday. My hand began intermittently twitching near the wound last night, and the twitches are still only occasional. I have not noticed any other symptoms of tetanus yet. What should I do? Should I still wait to seek treatment until Monday?

Hi, you should definitely get a Teatanus shot. Whenever there is an open wound with possibility of contamination and the individual does not remember the last dose of Tetanus taken then it is indicated to take a shot of
Tetanus immediately after suffering such a wound. You should get yourself injected soonest. Also, if the dog has not been completely immunized then you should consider taking Rabipur injections for prevention of Rabies.
Take care,
Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
