Can my teenage daughter use Valerian root 50 mg safely; she has anxiety and trouble sleeping; she is extremely sensitive and allergic to some medicines and foods. She is overly concerned about her health almost a hypochondriac which seems to have stemmed for the anxiety. Thank you Valerie

Hi, Thanks for asking. I understand your concern, No,Valerian root is not safe in teens before puberty... as the sleep stimulating hormone 'Melatonin" starts secreting in late teen age & giving Valerian at the time would disturb setting her normal sleep pattern. Instead you speaking with her as a friend & esquire about cause of anxiety... if needful take help of a counselor & try to remove the cause itself. Set a separate bed room with dark & cozy feel in night & bright light while waking up. Remove computer, TV or video games from bed room Avoid stimulants . Lether have a glass of warm milk before bed time. Encourage her to be positive. Let her adopt relaxation technique / stress management -Consult sleep specialist if needful. Thanks
