Is A TSH Level Of 8.8 A Cause For Concern?

Hi I was detected with hypothyroidism about 3 yrs ago. I was given 75 mcg. After a year and half the weight gain happened again and thyroid reports were on the higher side so my doctor asked me to take 75 mcg for 4 days in a week and 100 mcg for last 3 days it remained in controlley post that. But recently in the last 3 months again my report shows 8.8 Do I need to change my medicine again

Hello,

TSH should be between 0.5 and 5 Ui so in your case it is over the normal level and you will need to increase the dose of the thyroid medication.
Probably you will need to take 100 mcg a day every day and have the TSH checked in 6 weeks. If TSH is over 5Ui after 6 weeks with the new dose, another increase will be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
