Is A Black Spot On The Tip Of Toe A Cause For Concern?

My son who is 9 has a black spot on the tip of his toe. I originally thought it was a blood blister. It wasn t raided, but has gotten a bit bigger. Tonight I thought lets scrape it a little. When I did I thought it would be dry blood underneath, but muchc to my surprise the black spot wouldn t budge and nothing came off on the wash cloth. Should I be concerned?
