Is A Bruise On The Bicep Post Injury While On Blood Thinners A Concern?
I am on 80 mg blood thinners but just started them back this week after being off 2 weeks for surgery they removed my right eye. Yesterday I fell which I do a lot and got a major bruise on my bicep and hit my head the head is very tender to touch and have a sever headache that s getting worse not better esp when bending or trying to have a bowel movement the arm also has developed a inch or 2 wide bright red mark it has no swelling in it and its warm to the touch and softer than the other skin around it and it is located right under the bruise from the fall yesterday.
The blood thinner may lead to petechiae (red dots on skin). This should not be a major concern if you are taking blood thinners for any other underlying conditions. But please make sure that your bleeding time and clotting time tests are normal, they have to be done on a regular basis.
I would have advised my patient to undergo these tests in these circumstances. Regarding your headache kindly use an analgesic from a local doctor prescription. If headache turns worse you can visit a doctor for further treatment. Take care you will be alright.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Suhas Chauhan
