Is A Hole Between The Upper Chambers Of Heart A Cause For Concern?
I am 68 years old. It recently found that I have a hole between the upper chambers of my heart like my mother, daughter and grand daughter. My cardiologist and neurologist said that the hole should not be repaired until after I have a stroke. I am taking blood thinners which cause huge bruises all over my limbs. Is this a good medical decision?
Hello, a hole in upper chamber of heart is called as atrial septal defect. As you are 68 years old and got away with it till this age, its not of much concern. Because havin ASD can have effects in younger age group. As u said you are on blood thinners and you are developing bruises which shows that the dosage of the blood thinners might be high for you. You should do a blood check up for BT/ CT/ PT/ INR to look at your coagulation profile. If it is very high you might need to reduce the dosage of blood thinners aftr consulting your cardiologist and neurologist. Any other question you have feel free to ask.
