Is A Persistent, Sharp Pain Under The Lower Right Rib A Concern?

I have been having a sharp pain that has been increasing over time (started about 4-6 weeks ago) from now and then to sometimes constant pain. The pain is in the front and the back in the same place. It is located on the right side under the lower last rib. Should I see a doctor or is it something minor like a bone spur or disc out of place that will go away?? Thank you for your time! Cathy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Pain in the right ribs may have many causes. Mostly it because of muscles soreness that goes itself. However, if this has been for a few weeks then it good to see a doctor as sometimes gallstones, or fatty liver or other problems of the liver may also cause it. Though it's unlikely to be any serious but better to get it checked if for a few weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
