Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my belly button sticks out a little but only one side , as if its been pushed out. my gp seems to think my belly button has come undone but im 48 years old !! I am inclined to believe it may be a hernia. its been like it for a few years but now starts to hurt sometimes, especially if i press the area
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Popping of anything in the umbilical or para-umbilical area which can be reduced and now has become tender to pressure is indicative of a hernia. Since it has been there for a few years, it is better to get this examined by a General Surgeon and also assisted by high resolution ultrasonography. Once confirmed I would advise you to get this operated as it has become tender. Also see that you do not have any constipation, chronic coughing or any such activities that puts up a pressure on the abdomen increasing the hernia further.
