Is A Protruding Lump On The Stomach A Hernia?

My 7 year old son has a protruding lump on his stomach, an inch away from his belly button, to the right, just appeared the other day. Has been complaining of stomach pain for weeks, pediatrician diagnosed him with constipation, he s been taking restoralax with results. I ve also taken him off all gluten (as i have celiac disease ) but he is still having stomach pain. The lump reminds me of a hernia, I had an umbilical hernia myself and it resembles that a bit. Any help would be appreciated. I m a registered nurse.

Hi and welcome to HCM. Thanks for the query.
Well this is one of the signs of hernia and it can be sonsidered but this is nor so common in this age. more commonly we see umbilical hernias. this lump can be just bloated stomach or some subcutaneous lesion such as fibrona, lipoma. He should do ultrasound of this lump and more detailed gastroenterologic work up if his symptoms persist.
Wish you good health. Regards
