Is A Surgical Repair Advisable For A Lateral Meniscus Tear?
Hi I am a 57 year old female advanced tennis player. I have recently been diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear of the body and posterior horn. the MRI does not report exact size but my Dr said small . Will it heal if I rest or am I wasting time waiting. Plus can it be repaired or just smoothed out. thanks Lesley
Yes, lateral meniscal tear should be better repaired. They usually do arthroscopic surgery which will help you repair your tear with a minimally invasive procedure and the recovery is also very quick.
Since, you say you are tennis player, its better you get it fixed up and then start recovering from it.
If you leave it behind, you might have even more injury to the part and you might need open surgery which requires more time to get recovered from the operation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
