Is A Suspicious Faint Density Is Seen In The 4th Right Posterior Rib A Serious Concern?
The result of my xray stated that a suspicious faint density is seen in the plane of the 4th posterior rib, right. The rest of the lung markings are prominent. The heart is not enlarged. The rest of the included structures are unremarkable. Conclusion Deferred. Chest ALV suggested. What does it mean? Please let me know. Thank you
Many a times, lesions, opacities or infiltrations in the apical are of lung are obscured by the overlying soft tissue or bony tissues like ribs and clavicle. Hence, if there is any suspicious or faint lesion like opacity are seen, in normal PA or AP view of XRAY, then to have a clear view, chest ALV (Apical lordotic view) is recommended & the same has been advised in your case to make the suspicious opacity more informative. In some cases, to make the things more clear, further imaging by cat scan or even MRI may also be required.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
