Is A Thallium Scan Required To Avoid CABG In A Heart Patient?

Hi, my mother had a mild heart attack a month ago. The doctors suggested angiography, which reveals an EF rate of 60%.she has been advised, CABG vs medication. My mother sometimes complain very mild chest pain. The doctor is now suggesting a Thallium scan to avoid CABG. What is your opinion?

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. If the angiogram shows multiple blockages, and she is diabetic, certainly CABG would be more approapiate; if there are only a few blockages and symptoms are mild, medications can be very effective as well. More important than the thallium scan, is how severe and how many blockages she has, along with the severity of her symptoms.

Hope that helps, wish you the best,
