Is Alcohol Consumption Advisable While On Rocephin And Vancomycin?
Hello. I am taking Rocephin and Vancomycin through a pikk line for an infection that developed after surgery. I have read alcohol creates no problem with Vanc but can find no information on alcohol and Rocephin. I m not talking about large amounts of alcohol, but small amounts, maybe 3 ounces after dinner or before bed, and not every evening. Maybe 3-4 nights a week.
Rocephin is composed of 'Ceftriaxone', which is an antibiotic used for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. Vancomycin is also an antibiotic used to treat a number of bacterial infections.
Alcohol will not diminish the effectiveness of antibiotics like Vancomycin and Ceftriaxone. Also, alcohol can cause similar side effects, such as stomach upset, dizziness and drowsiness. Hence, when you combine the two these side effects may increase.
Alcohol can also reduce your energy and delay how quickly you recover from illness. Hence, it may be best to avoid alcohol until you have finished your antibiotics course completely and feeling better by recovery from illness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
