Is An Elevated PSA Level A Cause For Concern In An Elderly Person?

hi I am a 62 year old male, I have been having regular psa blood test for 3 years now after my psa reading was slightly high at 6.5ng/ml originally at a routine check up and my psa reading is still the same and hasn t changed. My biopsy was also clear. What could be causing these slightly high readings all the time ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Slightly high PSA readings that are stable in time and with a normal biopsy are very reassuring.
An enlarged prostate can also cause increased PSA, so it is not necessarily an indication of cancer.

In your case, you will need to relax, and just have the regular checks as your doctor has recommended you.

I hope I have answered your query and have been helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.
