Is Anxiety And Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Related To Anemia?

I have recently been diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia my blood levels were like a 7. Also have been experiencing extreme anxiety and some ocd symptoms like counting numbers and phrases in my head. Do you think these symptoms could be related to my iron deficiency?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. The term anxiety covers four aspects of experiences that an individual may have: mental apprehension, physical tension, physical symptoms and dissociative anxiety.
Other medical problems that may mimic the symptoms of an anxiety disorder include hyperthyroidism.
Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder where people feel the need to check things repeatedly, perform certain routines repeatedly, or have certain thoughts repeatedly due to inability to control either the thoughts or the activities. It could be stress-induced. Treatment for OCD involves the use of behavioral therapy and use of medications like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).
Anaemia caused due to iron deficiency is not related to any of the above disorders. It commonly manifests as tiredness and easy fatigability. Kindly take iron and folic acid supplements to overcome anaemia.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
