Is Atypical Pneumonia Long Lasting?
I need info about atypical pneumonia. What I found indicates that recovery is 2-3 weeks. But current cases in my family, one in Colorado and one in the Texas Panhandle are long-lasting, one for 3 months with massive lung damage. Another one with duration since Christmas week; this patient is sedated for 2 weeks, on ventilator, and critically ill. Is something awful going on with atypical pneumonia now??

Hello.Generally the atypical pneumonia is more dangerous than the typical pneumonia. The typical pneumonia is caused by common germs and atypical for less common germs. An example of atypical pneumonia is caused by Legionella.
However the prognosis of pneumonia also depends on the person.
It is different an atypical pneumonia in a 20 years old than an atypical pneumonia in an elderly diabetic with heart disease .I wish you good health.
