Is Bald Spot A Symptom Of Alopecia?

My son went to a barber and apparently moved his head and the guy made a bald spot on side of son s head. It s now been a couple weeks and nothing has grown back. In fact, it is oval and doesn t look like a razor cut. He s 19 and at school but now I m wondering if it could be alopecia or ringworm or some other thing. What to do---he won t be home for another 2-3 weeks

It will help to see the affected area before making a probable diagnosis. This is important because this spot was not noticed earlier and usually alopecia takes time to happen.

Ringworm is a possibility if there is intense itching. Ringworm is caused by fungus and grows over time. The patient has itching and then there is focal hair loss. Ringworm in the head is less common.

Razor cut will bleed and there is scar formation. The skin over a cut changes over time and the wound heals. This can be known if subsequent pictures show healing. Many skin conditions can cause focal loss of hair and it is suggested to consult a dermatologist. Please do not worry.
