Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Blood Pressure Of 145/58 A Cause For Concern In An Elderly Person?
my father is 92 years old. he was feeling drowsy and I looked at his blood pressure. it is 145 and diastolic 58. Should I worry? is it too high or too low? I wanted to give him something sweet to increase his diastolic pressure but how about his systolic which is high?? thanks
Systolic blood pressure of 145mm Hg seems to be slightly elevated, but can be managed by medications. However, diastolic blood pressure reading of 58 mmHg is extremely low.
Giving sweets will not increase diastolic blood pressure. Foot end elevation would help to bring up diastolic blood pressure.
However, if it doesn't improve, you need to seek medical attention on an emergency basis, as dropping down diastolic blood pressure further could endanger life.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
