Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My blood pressure has been running high the last week. Up to 170/95. I am on 5 mg of Ramipril twice daily and Metoporlol 1 pill a day. Is this a dangerous BP ??? I will certainly call my doc tomorrow. Do you have any suggestions??? Thank you, Carol
Yes it can absolutely be a cause for concern, while immediately or short term it cannot damage the body to any degree beyond quick recovery or repair, it has been discovered that a pressure over 175-180 systolic can certainly lead to organ damage if not managed. I would suggest continually checking your blood pressure, as many factors can elevate the pressure temporarily (i.e. caffeine, heavy activity, stress), which would make this reading less serious if it were isolated and not consistently repeatable. However if this level is consistent, it is along the borderline of quite dangerous, and should certainly be managed as soon as possible. If you develop signs of blurred vision, blood on urination or bowel movements, chest pain, and or confusion/neurological symptoms, I suggest you present to Emergency Services Immediately. I wish you the best in management of your BP.
