Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a granddaughter age 13 she is very active in sports but is very tired all the time tonite her mother took her blood sugar and it was 213 she had had a sandwich about four before she played volley ball. This was taken about 8;15.And she was going to have some supper after this
Dear Ma'am, Good morning! I appreciate your concern for your beloved granddaughter.
Based on the history and the result of her lab tests her blood glucose level is high after having a meals (sandwich) this is referred to as Postmeal or post prandial hyperglycemia.
Normal levels of blood glucose for a person without diabetes is as follows: 1. Fasting: 70–100 mg/dl 2. Post meal (2 hours after meals): Less than 140 mg/dl
Since her post meal glucose level is high, I advise you to take her to a physician for further evaluation which may include certain lab tests such Fasting (following 10 hrs overnight fasting) blood glucose and Post meal glucose, HbA1c, Urine analysis, etc. to rule out or confirm diabetes mellitus.
Hope this will help.
