Is Calamine Lotion And Clear Gel Effective In Treating Pimples And Dark Marks?
hello doctor.. i recently happened to have severe acne on my face, especially on the chin area. It has also caused dark marks on my face. I was prescribed dew calamine lotion, clear gel and kefclav tabs by my doctor. Is this really helpful in treating pimples n the darks marks ?
Clear gel is topical clindamycin gel which is useful for inflammatory acne. Kefclav is an oral antibiotic which would also help in inflammatory acne specially those with pus and pain.
While they would be useful for inflammatory acne but neither of them would be effective for post acne marks.
Calamine is not effective for both acne and marks.
In my practice I usually ask my patients of acne and post acne marks to use a topical retinoid once daily at night e.g either tretinoin/Adapalene Or Azaleic acid. They are effective for both acne as well as post acne marks.
