Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Cardiac Catheterization Effective In The Treatment Of Mitral Valve Regurgitation?
I am due for catheterization as per my cardiology doctor and I am trying to read more about it. I was diagnosed Afib 5 years ago and I am taking medication and taking EKG audio for my heart twice a year. I dont feel the symptoms of shortness of breath, palpitation and chest pain but the result of the audio EKG test there is a problem with my valve its called regurgutation the reason why I was scheduled for catheterization. Can you tell me more about the procedure. Thanks
Cardiac catheterization is a procedure by which a catheter is snaked in to your heart and a ballon mitral valvuloplasty can be done. This basically means your heart can be fixed without opening you up. You may be put under for a short period of time.
You won’t feel a thing. And you do not need to stay in the hospital for too long. It is likely that the mitral regurgitation brought about your A-Fib as well. It will all get under control over time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
