General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

Closing the wound is always best, and if a sterile method of closing the wound is possible then I highly recommend it. Antibiotics should take care of the rest, but only if he doesnt seem to be responding to the antibiotics by displaying symptoms like rise in temperature, poor wound healing visual signs, pus drainage, etc. then it would be best to open the wound and surgically debride and clean the region and then close it up.

Best wishes.
