Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
Rabies is a disease caused by animal bite, it is a 100% fatal but it is 100% preventable by proper and complete treatment. The treatment includes thorough wound wash, antirabies vaccine and anti rabies serum (ARS).
Antirabies vaccine should be taken intramuscularly on to deltoid on days 0.3.7.14 and 28 along with the rabies immunoglobulins around the wound on day 0.
As the bite was on the hand, because of the bacterial infection of the wound area it may leads to cellulitis of the affected area.It should be treated vigorously with antibiotics like syrup Bactoclav and the syrup dolo. Cellulitis after treatment it will go off.
The scheduled vaccination should be continued with out any delay. Thank you.
