Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom, age 77, was just seen today for an endoscopy. They said she had inflammation in the stomach and GERD. We went there, Huron Gastro in St Joe Facility under her PCP. We were concerned as she has choked on food a few times and on Christmas Eve 911 had to be called, she was ok. How can choking and GERD be related?
GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) is nothing but the inflammatory condition of esophagus and due to inflammation the inner over all diameter of esophagus reduces and most affected physiological phenomenon is to reduce the swallowing action because of the ill condition of esophagus and this causes the chocking sensation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Akhtarhusain Shaikh
