Is Cholesterol 268,triglyceride 238,hdl 49,vldl Cholesterol,cal 48 LDL 171 Normal?

Had physical with labs. Never had to take cholesterol before. Counts were total cholesterol 268- triglyceride 238- hdl 49- vldl cholesterol cal 48- LDL 171. Is this something to be concerned about. Started Lipitor tonight. YYYY@YYYY

Hi and welcome to HCM. Your lipid profile report is not normal. Desirable levels has to be achieved to prevent cardiac and other complications. Desirable levels are total cholestrol < 200mg/dl, triglycerides < 150 mg/dl, HDL cholestrol >45mg/dl, LDL cholestrol <120mg/dl. Your doctor has started u with cholesterol lowering drugs, which is good. Also remember to have good dietary habits like reduce salt, cut down junk foods, consume only poly unsaturated fatty acids like fish, Dont eat fried foods. Do some physical activity daily (30 minutes walk daily). All the best. Regards
