Is Cold Feeling In Body Related To CHF Or Pseudo Aneurysm?

My husband feels cold lost of the time. He had congestive heart failure in April. After he was stable, he had a cardiac cath and a stent was placed in the LAD. Five days later he had a pseudo aneurysm. He received 2 pints of blood about a week later. He has been told all this number are good. Why is the cold feeling related to the CHF or the pseudo aneurysm? He 68 and weighs 230. He lost 30 lbs since April

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that cold body feeling and congestive heart failure (CHF) may be related.

CHF is a serious health condition, leading to systemic congestion and if left ventricle contractility is importantly reduced (as a result of a prior myocardial infarction, or chronic valvular disease, etc), then a low systolic stroke volume, and cardiac index (CI) may ensue leading to decreased overall tissue perfusion with arterial blood.

These two important consequences of CHF:

(1) systemic congestion (subcutaneous edema; cellular and interstitial edema, leading to impairment of skin supply with blood, nutrients, and fluid exchanges, etc) with underlying impairment of cutaneous thermoregulation,

(2) low tissue perfussion with arterial blood (especially skin and subcutaneout compartments)

lead to those unpleasant cold body feeling your husband is experiencing recently.
I recommend a medicla check up by his cardiologist (t ocheck again congestion and perfusion status) and optimize his therapy to attain optimal hemodynamics condition. Anemia and thyroid dysfunction should be ruled out too.

Hope to have been helpful! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
