Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I under went cardiac tet recently, the result was , fasting blood sugar is 99, overl cholestrol was within limit but TMT test reveals blockages. The mets was 12 mins. Iam 43 yrs old. Q.1 how reliable is the test. Q2. Should i undergo coronary angiogram. Q. 3. If there is blockage how strong will my heart be
Dear sir/ Madam Thanks for your query. 12 minutes of exercise capacity on Bruce protocol without any symptoms for any individual at 43 years of age is very good. If your TMT is positive next step is imaging based stress test i.e. stress ECHO or Stress thallium scan. If there was chest pain or undue shortness of breath, then next step is coronary angiogram. A lot depends upon the actual ECG changes which were reported as positive. Overall pick-up rate of TMT is 68% and accuracy of positive tests is 76%. Strength of heart depends upon many other things and can be determined by ECHO and stress test both. I would recommend to consult a good cardiologist before getting another investigation done. Sincerely Sukhvinder
