Is Crusted Top Foot With Black Scabs After Amputation Of Toes Normal?
My sister recently had several toes amputated a few weeks ago. Now the top of her foot looks crusted with black scabs on top and looks awful. She saw the doctor and they are watching it closely. Is this normal after toe amputation or is the infection progressing more into her foot.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi If there is skin necrosis then it becomes dead and black, then one has to remove the dead skin and replace with skin graft. As far as progression of infections is concerned with your brief description it doesn't look to be. Wish you good health. Feel free to contact me anytime and many times.
