Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cytoscopy can cause pain and in some patients some bleeding and has increased risk for urinary infection. On the other hand this is a very valuable test to evaluate the urinary bladder. To prepare for the test the doctor might prescribe antibiotics before or after the procedure, you will need to follow the instructions of the doctor and take the medications as he prescribes them.

The doctor may also prescribe something for pain or might also do general anesthesia, these are things you will need to talk with your doctor which he would prefer in your case.

To conclude i would say:
- if the doctor finds the procedure needed to examine you, it is advisable to have it done, it may cause pain but there are things to do to help with it
- take the medications the doctor prescribes (antibiotics or pain killers) as advised and let the doctor know of any possible symptoms you have

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj, MD
