Is Drinking Pepto Bismol, Which Has Passed Its Expiry Date, Harmful?

Today while I was at work my stomach was really upset. My boss ran home and grabbed me some pepto bismol. Before actually looking at it is took a big gulp. I noticed it didn t taste right. When I looked at the expiration date, it expired in 2009. Is it harmful

First of all, always read the expiration date of drugs (prescriptions or over-the-counter), because they may be ineffective for their purpose, but also they may be dangerous! This principle is applicable for Pepto Bismol too, so don't take expired drugs!
