Is Excess Fluid Around The Heart Of Fetus With Large Fetal Size Shown In US Serious?
My granddaughter is 24 wks preg. and had an ultrasound done. She was told that the fetus had excess fluid around it's heart, was about 1lb 15oz. and fetal size was large for due date (7/15) She is to be scheduled to see specialist next wk. What might be fetus problem? Should she see specilaitst prior to next wk? Is her health at risk? What should we expect so I can be prepared to support her & her mother? Thanks!

It is important to exclude hydrops fetalis(fetal edema).
Status of fluid in fetal abdomen,skin edema is not mentioned in the report.If findings are not suggestive of hydrops then only follow up ultrasound should be done.
It is important to evaluate diabetes mellitus,ABO and Rh incompatibilty.
She need proper evaluation and treatment depend upon clinical findings and reports.
