Is Extreme Elevation In Blood Sugar Levels A Concern?
Good evening. My wife has diabetes. I think type 2? I don t know much.. But she vomitted around 11:30? Felt dizzy so we test her sugar levels and they were 477. I contacted the local hospital and no one has contacted me back. I checked them again 30 kins ago and they were 522 She took metformin at 1:50.. Is this a huge concern??
Hi I am Dr Mittal. I have read your message. I think you should take her to a nearby emergency as soon as possible. The sugars are too high. This is possibly what we call as diabetic ketoacidosis and can be fatal if left untreated, but is fully treatable if one gets to hospital in time. The episode of vomiting point to this possibility. They will need to admit her and start treatment and slowly modify her dose of medicines. Once fit, she can be discharged. Feel free to contact me for any clarification on any point. Best of luck, Dr Mittal
