Is Falling Asleep Easily A Matter Of Concern?

My girlfriend falls asleep very easily and states that stimulants - such as caffeine and diet pills she has taken in the past - have little or no effect on her. She doesn't seem to have extreme symptoms associated with narcolepsy, so is this a condition or a concern that should worry me?

Hello! Eventhough there is a well studied model of the human sleep/awake cycle, there are individual different patterns in falling asleep, sleeping and awakening.
Narcolepsy is a condition charachterized by four signs: 1.excessive daytime sleppiness (especially during activities like driving, eating, talking) and sleep attacks. 2. cataplexy (a partial or generall loss of tone, which may cause falling) 3. sleep paralysis (the person is unable to move while awakening) 4.hypnagogic hallucinations (during falling asleep). If your girlfriend hasn't at least two of these you don't need to be worried. In your question is mentioned that she sleeps easily but that doesn't befall in any of the four main signs ofnarcolepsy.
I hope i have been of help.
